Fisher Island

Fisher Island is an exclusive and very wealthy 216-acre world-class private island residential community that in 2000 had the highest per capita income of any place in the United States. It is located 3 miles off shore of Miami, Florida. It is named for Miami Beach developer Carl Fisher who once owned it. No road, causeway or bridge connects to the island, which is accessible only by private ferry and helicopter.

In the 1920’s, Fisher Island consisted of one-family island homes. It was William Vanderbilt’s winter estate. Later it became home to several other millionaires. In 1960, it was sold for development. For over 15 years it sat vacant before limited development began. Now it has become one of the most exclusive communities in the U.S. with approximately 750 homes and condos situated amidst a very lushly landscaped sanctuary.
