Fisher Island

Fisher Island is a 216-acre world-class private island residential community. It is a very exclusive and wealthy community that in 2000 had the highest per capita income of any place in the United States. It is located 3 miles off shore of Miami, Florida. It is named for Miami Beach developer Carl Fisher who once owned it. No road, causeway or bridge connects to the island, which is accessible only by private ferry and helicopter.

In the 1920’s, Fisher Island consisted of one-family island home. It was William Vanderbilt’s winter estate. Later it became home to several other millionaires. In 1960, it was sold for development. For over 15 years it sat vacant before limited development began. Now it has become one of the most exclusive communities in the U.S. with approximately 750 homes and condos situated amidst a very lushly landscaped sanctuary.

The Fisher Island Club is the place where most of the island’s social activities occur.
